we travel light - NOT

Backtracking a bit, let's review our arrival in India. We flew out of Calgary, to Chicago then direct to Delhi. The second leg is 15 hours. Yuck, so long, but it was an uneventful trip. The kids were great on the plane - only a tiny bit of arguing over the GameBoy and that was only because this plane did not have games in the entertainment system like we had assured the kids there would be. We did get to see Spiderman 3 so that was good. We arrived in the evening of August 16, with our 24 pieces of luggage (!!!!) and altho Randy had arranged for 3 cars to pick us up, there was no one to meet us. When you have had more experience in India, these things don't surprise you, but at that point we were still newbies.

We cleared the checkpoints no problem, never even opened a single suitcase for inspection. We were tired after 22 hours in transit, and finally Miranda just fell asleep where she was! Isaac was busy with the 7th Harry Potter book - he got to it first on the plane and people kept commenting on it because the book is about as big as he is. Finally after some calls to the US the hotel cars showed up and off we went. And it did take all those cars to carry our luggage!

We had adjoining rooms at the hotel, so we put the kids in one room and we took the other.

The hotel had a glass wall in the bathroom so you could watch TV while in the tub. We did not. We DID order room service more than once, because dinner here is eaten very late - like 8pm - and we could not stay awake that long! The hotel was not full and we hardly ever saw anybody else. The TV was disappointing because it was mostly in Hindi (even Disney channel was dubbed!).
