Halloween - ooh that's scary stuff!

We all wondered what would happen for Halloween, since it is not really celebrated here, but luckily, we were invited to a party at the Stoker's house. They are the other WalMart family in our branch. The house is huge and it was a good thing, because there were a million people there!

I told the kids they would have to make costumes out of whatever they could find, so Miranda went as a CubScout (in Isaac's uniform), Alex as a baseball player (in her uniform from fastpitch this spring), Isaac made himself a robot costume out of all the boxes I had saved, and Sam was SuperSam, defender of librarians, and abuser of younger siblings everywhere :). She made herself an eyemask and wore her blanket as a cape, and had handcuffs on her utility belt. I dressed as a gypsy, wearing every one of the 20 bead necklaces I have bought, and several scarves. The extras in the photo are Sam's friend Aparna and her brother. He didn't have a costume so we pinned a garden flag on him and called it good.

Sam really wanted to carve a pumpkin, but I had never seen an orange one, or a big one, for that matter. Usually at the store they are cut into big chunks, since they cook it and eat it, and strangely, don't carve it into scary faces!
I did manage to find this one green one that was a decent size, so I brought it home to Sam, and off she went!
We sat it outside on the wall, and the driver asked Randy what was up with it. It's kind of hard to explain jack-o-lanterns. Why DO we do that??

In our suitcases from Helac, Gail had sent some leftover goodie bags from the Helac picnic, and I was saving them for something special. The kids were feeling bad since they didn't get to Trick-or-Treat (ok, Sam and Alex are too old and Miranda actually went around to a few houses with her friends and they got a few candies, so it was really only Isaac that lost out!) so I got out these bags and they did the traditional candy trade and played with the little toys and then they didn't feel quite so bad! Thanks Gail!

What a beautiful smile you have Sam, and so photogenic, just like your Mom. And Alex, you too. I expect Isaac and Miranda to have beautiful smiles and be photogenic, little kids always are aren't they? Are you still a little kid Isaac? Bobette, your writing is so creative and fun to read. Please keep them coming, we check in every other day or so to see if there's a new addition. Love the pictures!!
